From Pooja to Prasadam: Udupi’s Churnotsava Leaves Devotees Enthralled
Udupi, Jan 15, 2024: The grand culmination of the annual ‘Saptotsava,’ known as ‘Churnotsava,’ unfolded with traditional splendor and joy at Udupi Sri Krishna Matha on Monday.
Suvarnotsava or Churnotsava, observed on the morning following Makara Sankranthi, witnessed the majestic procession of the Utsava Murthis (idols) of Sri Krishna and Mukhyaprana in a resplendent golden palanquin near Brahma Ratha.
Following the Pooja, the revered Swamijis distributed coins, sweets, and fruits to the devotees surrounding the Ratha. Subsequently, they actively participated alongside the devotees in the joyous task of pulling the chariot.
Paryaya Peetadhipathi Sri Vidya Sagara Tirtha Sripadaru, along with Sri Vidyadheesha Tirtha Sripadaru (Palimaru Matha senior pontiff), Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Sripadaru (Pejawara Matha), Sri Vidyavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru (Kaniyoor Matha), Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha (Sode Matha), Eeshapriya Tirtha Sripadaru, (Adamaru Matha), Sri Vidyarajeshwara Tirtha (Palimaru Matha junior pontiff) and Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha (Shirooru Matha) were present.
The Utsava Murthis were then escorted for the ‘Avabritha Snana,’ a sacred ritual of the grand holy bath at Madhwa Sarovara. Culminating the festivities, devotees were treated to a sumptuous feast as part of the ‘Anna Santharpane.’
