MedOrient: KMC Welcomes New MBBS Batch with Grand Inauguration
Manipal, September 01, 2023: The MedOrient orientation program for the MBBS Batch of 2023-24 was officially inaugurated at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, in a ceremony that brought together esteemed dignitaries, parents of the newly enrolled MBBS students, and marked significant moments in the academic journey of these aspiring medical professionals.
The event commenced with a symbolic lighting of the lamp, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment, by Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of KMC Manipal. He was joined by Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Dr. Giridhar Kini, Registrar of MAHE, and Dr. HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE. The ceremony also witnessed the participation of top-ranked NEET students, who paid their respects with a floral tribute to Dr. TMA Pai, the visionary founder of KMC Manipal.
Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh underscored the profound responsibility of being both a doctor and a leader.
He emphasized the paramount importance of clinical skills, punctuality, commitment, and dedication to patients, studies, and fellow colleagues. Humility and effective communication were highlighted as fundamental attributes for success in the medical profession, alongside the core values of “do no harm.”
Dr. Giridhar Kini unveiled the Student Handbook for the academic year 2023-24 and extended hearty congratulations to all the students for choosing KMC Manipal as their nurturing institution of higher learning.
He emphasized the critical role of discipline, maturity, time management, and overall well-being in achieving their academic aspirations.
Dr. Anil Bhat, Associate Dean, underlined the profound symbolism of the white coat and administered the Charaka Shapath (oath) to the new students, underscoring the ethical responsibilities that come with the noble profession of medicine.
Dr. HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE, paid a heartfelt tribute to the visionary Dr. TMA Pai and recounted his pioneering contributions to skill education. He also extended his warmest congratulations to the top-ranking NEET students, Dr. Rayhan Hassan and Dr. Meher Batterywala.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks offered by Dr. Krishnananda Prabhu, Associate Dean of KMC Manipal. Dr. Sushma Prabath and Dr. Anna Dsouza skillfully conducted the event as Masters of Ceremonies.
In a symbolic and environmentally conscious gesture, all the newly enrolled students planted saplings at Endpoint Manipal, symbolizing the commencement of their journey in the noble field of medicine and surgery at Manipal.
