Davangere accident victim gives life through organ donation
6 patients benefited from the organ donation program
Manipal, Jan 25, 2022: Fifty-seven-year-old Indramma B M, wife of Nanjundappa H N, was injured in a road accident at Gudalu village near Davangere on January 22 evening.
She was admitted to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on the next day for further treatment.
Despite efforts by the Doctors, the prognosis was poor and she did not show any signs of recovery. Indramma B M was declared brain dead by the Doctors officially twice at 6 hours intervals.
Subsequently, her husband, Nanjundappa H N expressed willingness to donate viable organs. Heart/Heart valves, Liver, two kidneys, and two corneas were harvested and helped to save the lives of 6 people.
As per Jeevasarthakathe protocols and decisions, two corneas and one kidney were retained by Kasturba Hospital Manipal for the registered patients, one kidney sent to Yenepoya Hospital, Mangaluru and Heart/ Heart valve to the patients of MGM Hospital, Chennai.
Nanjundappa H N husband of the deceased Indramma, said, “Organ donation is a noble cause and my wife has committed a great deed even in her death”.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Avinash Shetty asked people to encourage such organ donation.
He thanked Indramma’s family who decided to do this noble cause.
“The media should play a vital role in delivering the matter to the public” he added.
The harvested organs were transferred to all the recipients’ hospital with the support of the Udupi Police Department from Manipal through the Mangaluru International Airport via Green Corridor.
