 5 Omicron cases in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Dec 18, 2021: Omicron has made its presence in Dakshina Kannada district. Five Covid patients have been found with the Omicron variant.

All the five were old cases and were among the samples sent for genomic test a week ago. The report has arrived today which declares five Omicron positive.

The Health Department note states that of these five cases, four have already recovered and the other one is stable.

On Saturday the health department declared five samples from Dakshina Kannada district as Omicron positive after the genomic testing. All five are students.

Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar declared this in his Twitter handle.

“First cluster case was reported from an institution (in Bantwal) in November. Another cluster was reported from nursing college where 19 students got tested positive. We had sent the sample for genomic study on Dec 10 as per the government directions and got the report today,” Nodal officer Dr. Ashok H said.

The result that came on Saturday declared four cases in the first cluster and one in the second cluster as Omicron positive. The health department officials visited both the places. In the first cluster all the students have recovered. In the second cluster the patient is healthy and asymptomatic.

Health officials said that none of these students had a travel history. While one is 18 years, three are 14 years, and one is 13 years.
