Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava on Dec 21
Mangaluru, Dec 17, 2021: The silver jubilee of Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava will be held in Ullal on December 21.
The event will be organized by Karnataka Tulu Academy, Ullal City Municipality, and Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava Samithi.
Speaking to reporters Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy chairman Dayananda G Kattalsar said a procession will be held from Thokkottu to Ullal at 9.30 am.
The procession will be held from Veeramaruthi Vyayama Shala, Thokkottu. City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar will hoist the flag at 10.30 am.
Ahila Karnataka Jaina Mahila Okkuta former president Kesari Ratnarajayya will inaugurate the event. Senior folk artist Sindhu Gujaran Moilottu will inaugurate the cultural program. Former MLA K Jayaram Shetty will give an introduction to the program. MLA U T Khader will president and Tulu Sahitya Academy chairman Dayananda G Kattalsar will preside.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Hampi and KSOU University B A Vivek Rai will deliver the keynote address. Padma Shree awardee Harekala Hajabba will be felicitated. Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary will speak on the occasion.
A workshop on Abbakka’s freedom movement will be held from noon to 1 pm. Mangalore University Registrar Dr. Kishor Kumar will preside. Folklore scholar Shrikanth Shetty and lecturer Akshay Gokhale Karkala will participate.
A Beary cultural program by Beary Sauharda Balaga, Ullal will be held from 1 pm to 1.30 pm.
The valedictory program will be held at 5 pm.
Kannada and Culture Minister V Sunil Kumar will deliver the award. Fisheries Minister S Angara will deliver the certificate. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof P S Yadapadittaya will deliver the valedictory address and Kannada Sahithya Parishat president Dr. Mahesh Joshi will be the chief guest.
Veera Rani Abbakka Award will be conferred on noted writer Chandrakala Nandavar and Veera Rani Abbakka Puraskar will be conferred on retired teacher K A Rohini.
