Canara coast to observe 47-day fishing ban
Udupi: In a big relief to thousands of fishermen in the Coastal region, the state government has reduced the mechanized boat fishing ban period to 47 days.
As per rules the annual fishing ban on the mechanized boat and outboard boats using engine above 10 HP of 60 days start from June 1.
But considering the problem faced by the fishermen community this year, especially due to the COVID, the government has decided to ban from June 15 to July 31.With this, the 60 days ban has been reduced to 47 days.
It was a tough year for the fishermen. Four continuous cyclones, followed by fishing drought had hit them before COVID. The fishing activity came to a grinding halt during the lockdown period.
Considering the problem of the fishermen, the government has issued a notification on May 29 revising the ban.
