 COVID-19: 97 new cases, 3 deaths in DK

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district recorded an unprecedented rise in the number of COVID patients with 97 new cases on Sunday. The district also registered three COVID deaths.  
Of the 97 positives, 32 had come from abroad (Saudi Arabia and Qatar), 1 from Mumbai. 10 patients are contacts of existing patients. The concerning point is that the district administration is yet to identify the source in 28 cases. Meanwhile, 21 patients with influenza-like illness and 5 with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection tested positive for COVID.
Three deaths:
  • A 31-year-old person from Mangaluru with Asthama, pneumonia, and other symptoms was admitted to Wenlock Hospital on June 26 and was under treatment at ICU. On June 27 night he died. The test report shows him COVID positive. 
  • A 48-year-old woman from Bantwal who had severe acute respiratory infection was admitted to a private hospital on June 27. She died without responding to treatment. She too tested COVID positive.
  • A 51-year-old woman from Mangaluru who too was admitted to a private hospital on June 26 for severe acute respiratory infection died on June 28 afternoon. Her test report also declares her COVID positive.
With this, the district has seen 13 deaths of which health department considers 11 as COVID deaths.
