Basaravaj Bommai is Karnataka’s new Chief Minister

Udupi, July 27, 2021: BJP has finalized Senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai’s name for the Chief Minister’s post.
While the names of B L Santhosh, Prahlad Joshi, Murugesh Nirani, and Dr. Ashwath Narayan were making rounds, the selection of Yediyurappa’s close aide Bommai’s name has come a surprise.
Born on January 28, 1960, at Hubballi, Bommai did his primary and college education at Hubballi.

He did his Mechanical Engineering at Hubballi and joined Telco where he underwent training for two years from 1983 to 1985.
Son of Janatha Dala leader and former Chief Minister S R Bommai, he was active in Yuva Janatha Dala. He conducted a massive rally in 1993 at Hubballi town. In 1995 he became the general secretary of State Janatha Dal.
Bommai served as the political secretary to J H Patel from 1996 to 1997. He entered the upper house in the election held for Council in 1997. He did it again in 2003.
When Janatha Dal slip, he joined the JD(U) and in 2008 joined BJP.
In 2008 he contested from Shiggon assembly constituency and won the seat. He had also served as the minister in Yediyurappa, D V Sadananda Gowda, and Jagadeesh Shettar government as the Water resource Minister.
In the previous government led by BS Yediyurappa, Bommai had served as the Home Minister.
