Karnataka Govt to provide red Parboiled rice in PDS shops
Mangaluru, May 27, 2021: In a major move the state government has chalked out measures to provide red parboiled rice at PDS shops for the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi from November.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary told this to the reporters after a meeting at Bengaluru today.
Alleging that the present verity provided at the PDS shops was not good, people of the Coastal district have been demanding the locally produced red parboiled rice.
People and the elected representatives wanted the government to provide the locally produced red variety of parboiled rice at the PDS shops.
Finally, the state government has initiated some concrete measures to fulfill this longstanding demand.
“Today a meeting was held which was attended by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti, Food corporation deputy chairman Kiran Kodgi and senior officials. We have chalked out plans to distribute the red parboiled rice verity from November at PDS shops for the people of DK and Udupi,” Kota Srinivas Poojary said.
“We have also passed resolutions to take permission from the Central food ministry to take permission for the local parboiled rice verities like MO4, Jyothi, Abhilasha, and Jaya,” he added.
