Belthangady, Jan 25, 2021: A youth is suspected to have been trapped in mud following a landslide of Bangrapalike falls in Belthangady Taluk.

Bangrapalike is a remote village in Malavanthige village situated atop the Western Ghats inside Kudremukh National Park and sans proper road connectivity.

According to former Panchayat member Arun Kumar, some youths had come from Ujire to Bangrapalike yesterday and today they and the local boys had been to Bangrapalike falls.

It is said that there was a landslide when one of the boys tried to go atop the falls and got trapped under the heap of mud.

Details are awaited as the village neither has connectivity nor communication.
The preliminary report states that the landslide continued till evening. Removing debris is a tough task as it has to be done manually as earthmovers cannot enter this place which is surrounded by Kudremukh National Park.

When contacted Belthangady Tahsildar Mahesh said that the Malavanthige Village Accountant has been sent to the spot and details are awaited.

Arun Kumar told that Kiranibettu- the place where the landslide took place today, had witnessed similar landslide about 60 years ago.

“The River was blocked then. However there was no causality in that incident,” he added.
