Concrete Work on NH-169A at Malpe–Adi Udupi section: Alternate Routes Announced
Udupi, November 10, 2025: Vehicular movement on a section of the National Highway 169A (Tirthahalli–Malpe Road) will be temporarily restricted from November 10 to 30 due to concrete work being taken up simultaneously on both sides of the four-lane stretch between km 85.200 and km 85.580 (Malpe–Adi Udupi section).
To ensure smooth execution of the project and public convenience, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Swaroopa T.K. has issued an order under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Rule 221(A)(2) & (5) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, prohibiting the movement of all types of vehicles on this particular stretch during the period of work.
According to the district administration’s release, alternative traffic arrangements have been made as follows:
- Heavy vehicles travelling from Malpe towards Mangaluru or Kundapura must take the route via Malpe–Balrama Circle–Thottam–Gujjarabettu–Hoode–Nejar–Kallianpur–Santhekatte, and then proceed along the national highway.
- Heavy vehicles bound for Malpe should take the route through Aashirvad Circle–Lakshmi Nagar–Kodavuru–Malpe.
- Light vehicles travelling towards or from Malpe may use the Kalmadi Circle–Ambalpady–National Highway route for entry and exit. They can also move via Kalmadi–Kidiyur–Kadekar–Kannarpady–NH–Udupi as an alternate path.
- Light vehicles from Malpe to Mangaluru can travel through Padukere–Thottam–Balayipada–National Highway, as per the advisory.
The district administration has appealed to motorists to cooperate with the temporary restrictions and use the designated alternative routes to avoid congestion. The concrete work is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the Tirthahalli–Malpe stretch of NH-169A for safer and more efficient travel.
