Udupi, October 07, 2025: The works taken up under the Central and State governments’ ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission scheme must be completed within the stipulated time, said Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prateek Bayal, urging officials to ensure 100% coverage by providing drinking water connections to every household in the district.

He was speaking while chairing the District-level Task Force Committee meeting on drinking water quality monitoring held at the Zilla Panchayat office, Rajathadri, Manipal.

The CEO directed that for the installation of drinking water pipelines and construction of overhead tanks in reserved and protected forest areas of Karkala and Kundapur, permission from the Forest Department is mandatory. He instructed officials to obtain necessary certificates from forest officers and expedite the works. He also directed them to complete pending tap connection works and submit completion reports at the earliest.

Under the Single Village Drinking Water Scheme, a total of 525 projects have been taken up, of which 487 have been completed and 38 are under progress, achieving 93% of the target. Out of the total 1,80,868 tap connections planned, 1,49,416 have been provided, reaching 83% completion. Works worth ₹540.76 crore have been completed so far.

In seven taluks across 155 villages, 246 habitations, and 3,402 settlements, drinking water connections have been provided to 2,15,738 of the 2,47,190 households, while 31,452 households are yet to be covered, he informed.

Under the Multi-Village Drinking Water Scheme, a project worth ₹305.12 crore covering 788 rural habitations and Byndoor town in Byndoor taluk and another project worth ₹528.42 crore to draw water from the Varahi River near KPC Dam at Haladi village for Karkala, Hebri, and Kaup taluks are in progress. All these works must be completed within the given timeline, he said.

District Planning Officer Dr. Uday Kumar Shetty and officials from the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department were present at the meeting.
