Kateel, March 23, 2025: The air in Kateel is thick with devotion and excitement as preparations for the annual festival of Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple reach their peak. The much-awaited ‘Uthsavam,’ set to take place from April 13 to April 20, promises to be a grand spectacle of religious fervor, cultural traditions, and spiritual significance, drawing thousands of devotees from across the region and beyond.

For generations, the annual festival at the temple has been an occasion of deep-rooted devotion and community bonding. Hereditary trustee and archaka K. Vasudeva Asranna, along with temple committee chairman and hereditary trustee Sanathkumar Shetty of Kodethurguthu are leading the arrangements, ensuring that devotees experience the spiritual magnificence of the event.

The festivities will begin on April 13 with the sacred ‘Doddarangapooje’ and ‘Anjurarohana,’ followed by the grand ‘Dhwajaarohana’ ritual, marking the commencement of the celebrations. The week-long festival is a blend of religious rituals and cultural programs culminating in the grand ‘Brahma Rathotsava’ on April 20. Every evening, the temple premises will come alive with cultural performances by renowned artists, while the rhythmic chanting of hymns and devotional songs will create an aura of divine sanctity.

One of the festival’s highlights is the ‘Golden Pallakki Utsavam’ and ‘Golden Chariot Utsavam,’ which will be performed every day, drawing devotees in large numbers to witness the deity in all its resplendent glory. ‘Deepada Bali,’ ‘Utsava Bali,’ and ‘Padusavari’—rituals that hold deep significance in the temple’s spiritual traditions will be held. The grand culmination, the ‘Avabhuthotsava’ (Arata), promises to be an awe-inspiring event, symbolizing the completion of the festival with a sacred ritual.

A unique aspect of the temple’s devotion extends beyond rituals. Every day, thousands of devotees partake in the free ‘Annadana’ (mass feeding) offered by the temple, a tradition that has been carried forward for years.

Devotees from various parts of the country are expected to flock to Kateel during the festival, reinforcing the temple’s status as a spiritual and cultural hub. The temple management has made elaborate arrangements for visitors, including online seva bookings and donation options for those who wish to contribute to its various initiatives.

As the temple town of Kateel prepares for this divine extravaganza, the streets will soon be lined with stalls, the sounds of bhajans will fill the air, and the sacred river Nandini will witness thousands of faithful souls seeking blessings from the Goddess. The festival is not just a religious event—it is a celebration of faith, tradition, and the timeless connection between the deity and her devotees.
