 Prioritize Completion of Drinking Water Projects: Uttara Kannada DC

Karwar, Jan. 20, 2025: Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya has directed the swift completion of approved drinking water projects under various urban local bodies in Uttara Kannada district.

Chairing a progress review meeting of urban local body projects held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, she expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the tender process for approved projects. The DC warned officials that strict action would be taken against those showing laxity after approvals are granted. She further instructed that all ongoing projects should be completed by the first week of February.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of timely payments to contractors upon the completion of projects. She noted that delays in payments by urban local bodies have hindered financial progress. Officials were urged to avoid delays and ensure payments are made promptly for completed projects.

Highlighting pending works under the 15th Finance Commission, she urged the completion of 17 remaining projects within the stipulated timeframe to achieve 100% physical and financial progress. The DC instructed the Urban Development Fund’s Planning Director to issue notices to officials failing to perform their duties effectively.

Stella Varghese, Planning Director of the Urban Development Fund, stated that municipal commissioners and chief officers are authorized to approve projects costing up to ₹2 lakh. She urged them to expedite and complete such projects promptly.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineer of the Urban Development Fund K. Ravikumar, Assistant Executive Engineer Bhaskar Gowda, commissioners, chief officers of urban local bodies, and other officials.
