Chairing a preliminary meeting at the district administration office in Rajatadri, Mamata Devi emphasized the importance of meticulous planning for the event. The Senior Citizens’ Day is scheduled to be held on October 1 at the Ravindra Mantapa of MGM College, starting at 10 a.m.

A health screening camp for senior citizens will be held at 9 a.m. on the same day. Additionally, special lectures on issues related to senior citizens will be arranged by experts during the event.

As part of the celebrations, sports competitions for senior citizens will take place on September 4 at the district sports complex in Ajjarakadu. Cultural programs will be hosted at the Dr. G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College auditorium.

Mamata Devi stressed the need for a well-organized celebration and recommended issuing formal invitations to public representatives and dignitaries. She also encouraged greater participation from both senior citizens and the public.

In the sports category, events such as musical chairs, brisk walking, and bucket ball tossing will be held.

Men who secure first place in musical chairs (aged 60-70) and brisk walking (aged 60-69) will be eligible to participate in state-level competitions. The department will arrange for travel, accommodation, meals, and refreshments for the selected state-level participants.

The celebrations will feature five competitions in total, including three in sports and two in cultural activities. The cultural segment will include singing and monoact performances for men and women aged 60-69 and 70 and above.

Mamata Devi instructed officials to organize elocution contests for high school and college students under the theme “Our Elders, Our Role Models.” The contests will focus on the values, principles, truth, justice, and care of the elderly, avoiding neglect and institutionalization.
