Udupi, August 13, 2024: Udupi district officials are gearing up for the 109th birth anniversary celebration of former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs, known for his contributions to the welfare of backward classes.

During a preparatory meeting at the Rajathadri District Office in Manipal, Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidya Kumari emphasized the need for meticulous planning to ensure the event’s success.

Scheduled for August 20 at 10 am, the event will take place at the Jagannath Auditorium of the Badagabettu Cooperative Society in Udupi. The program will include a special lecture on Urs’s life and achievements, competitions for hostel students, and awards for academic excellence.

District officials, including those from the Backward Classes Welfare Department, were instructed to form subcommittees and ensure that formal invitations are extended to dignitaries. Publicity efforts will be ramped up to encourage community participation. The event is expected to draw significant public interest, given Urs’s legacy in the region.
