Manipal: MAHE signs MOU with QuidelOrtho for Center of Excellence in Immunohematology
Manipal, November 10, 2023: The Excellence (CoE) in Immunohematology is now established at the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
The establishment of this center marks a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between Kasturba Hospital Blood Center and Quidel Ortho, promising enhanced patient care and bolstered blood safety measures.
Lt Gen Dr. MD Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, speaking on the occasion appreciated the collaborative efforts of the team from Kasturba Hospital Blood center and QuidelOrtho which would be greatly beneficial for patient care and blood safety.
The memorandum of understanding formalizing this partnership was signed by Dr. Giridhar Kini, the Registrar of MAHE, and Quidel Ortho.
Mr. Krishnamoorthi, the General Manager of Quidel Ortho, expressed pride in the association with Manipal Academy of Higher Education, emphasizing that this collaboration marks the first-of-its-kind initiative in India. Dr. Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer of the Teaching Hospitals of MAHE, extended gratitude to Quidel Ortho and the center’s coordinators.
Dr. Shamee Shastry, the coordinator of the CoE and Professor and Head of the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, outlined the center’s objectives.
“With the status of CoE, we aim to facilitate both clinical and academic excellence in the field of Immunohematology, implementing and leading various best practices, Process Excellence, Continuous Quality Improvement in the journey of Donor’s vein to Patient’s vein. The objective of the center is to act as a reference hub for the entire nation and to promote research and innovation in the field of Immunohematology,” she stated.
Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor-Health Sciences MAHE, Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, the Dean of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal were present.
