Jackfruit Mela inaugurated in Udupi
Udupi, June 22, 2023: The flavors of jackfruit took center stage in Udupi as the city played host to the much-anticipated Jackfruit Mela. Held at the Raitha Seva Kendra in Shivalli, the event showcased the versatile fruit’s potential to transform the lives of farmers while delighting food enthusiasts.
Inaugurating the event, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that jackfruit, grown in Coastal and Malnad region is renowned for its nutritional value and thrives abundantly. Facilitating value addition and creating a market for this fruit holds the potential to empower farmers, allowing them to reap greater benefits and achieve economic empowerment.
Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty urged farmers to explore export possibilities for diverse jackfruit-based edible products. By tapping into domestic and international markets, farmers can expand their revenue streams and gain recognition on a global scale.
Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M underscored the significance of the Jackfruit Mela in providing a platform for farmers to showcase their diverse jackfruit offerings. Beyond a delightful culinary experience for attendees, these events facilitate direct marketing channels, connecting farmers with consumers seeking quality produce.
The event garnered additional praise for the construction of the Raitha Seva Kendra’s roof, which received a generous funding of Rs. 48.5 lakh through the Social Responsibility Fund from the Robosoft Technologies.
