Kasturba Medical College Hosts MASOCON 2023
Manipal, May 12, 2023: The Manipal Surgical Oncology Conference- MASOCON 2023, was held on the May 12 and 13 at the Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, KMC Manipal.
Organized by the Department of Surgical Oncology at Kasturba Medical College Manipal, the conference drew over 150 delegates and faculty members from various oncology disciplines across India.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Vijay Kumar M, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University. Guests of Honour included Dr Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal and Dr Shailesh V Shrikande, Deputy Director of TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
During his speech, Dr Vijay Kumar M emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. He noted that most cases of cancer are reported in the third and fourth stages, presenting significant challenges for doctors. Dr Shailesh V Shrikande spoke on the need to continually learn and upgrade surgical techniques in the field of medical surgeries.
Dr Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh announced plans to invest more facilities in Manipal Comprehensive Care Cancer Center, stating that social media techniques only provide one side of knowledge, while live surgery workshops and demonstrations offer a comprehensive understanding.
The conference featured live surgeries demonstrated by Dr Shailesh V Shrikande, Dr Ashwin Desouza, Dr Shalaka Joshi, Dr Manisha Bhandare from TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and Dr Devendra Chaukar from Nanavathi Max Super speciality Hospital.
Dr Naveena Kumar, Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, served as the Conference Chairperson, providing an overview of the conference. The Master of ceremony for the program was Dr Preethi S Shetty.
The MASOCON 2023 conference was a resounding success, offering valuable insights and upgrading knowledge for doctors in the field of surgical oncology.
