Mumbai, May 05, 2023: As Mumbai gears up for the monsoon season, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has successfully completed its runway repair and maintenance work. The airport, which boasts over 950 air traffic movements daily, closed its runway temporarily to ensure smooth functioning during the rainy season.

The closure, which lasted between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM on May 2, allowed CSMIA to conduct critical checks and undertake various pre-monsoon measures to identify and inspect waterlog-prone areas. Over 2,000 drains and duct banks were opened, checked, and cleaned, ensuring the integrity of cables, underground utilities, and the health of the brilliantly lit aeronautical lighting system essential for navigation of aircraft.

CSMIA’s Monsoon contingency plan has been put in place, designed to respond and mitigate any possible inclement weather, ensuring business continuity and the safety of all airlines and passengers round the clock.

The airport expressed its gratitude to all key stakeholders involved in the runway work and passengers for their cooperation and support during the closure. The yearly practice and contingency plan help maintain operational continuity and ensure passenger safety, creating better efficacy for airlines operating to and from Mumbai.

Through these developments, CSMIA has showcased its commitment to improving operational efficiency and reducing inconvenience to its passengers during the monsoon season.
