 Minister reviews NMPT’s projects under PM Gati Shakti

Mangaluru, Feb 09, 2022: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal today held a comprehensive review of initiatives taken by the various ports for facilitating Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and Operational Efficiency Through Technology (OETT) to boost growth under PM Gati Shakti National Plan.

The review meeting was attended by MoS Shantanu Thakur and Chairpersons of all Major Ports, Inland Waterways Authority of India representatives and senior officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that the Integrated efforts which are being taken by ports and others will add speed to development works around the country.

New Mangalore Port under the leadership of Chairman Dr. A. V. Ramana is implementing three projects worth Rs. 695 crores under the PM Gati Shakti. The three projects namely mechanization of Berth No.14 for handling container & other cargos in DBFOT basis with M/s JSW at cost of Rs. 281 crores, Construction of new Berth no.17 for handling bulk & dry-bulk cargos worth Rs. 217 crores and construction of fishing harbour at Kulai at cost of Rs. 197 crores.

Apart from this the Port has also identified 10 new projects with an investment of Rs. 2940 crores approximately. Amongst the above projects, 36 acres of land has been already allotted to 04 projects worth Rs. 640 crores approximately in view of enabling port-led industrialization and increased cargo inflow to the Port. And fifth project of constructing a skill development centre is also underway as the project is under evaluation by an investor. Feasibility studies are also underway in the remaining projects and discussions are on with the prospective investors.

The Minister also reviewed various initiatives undertaken by New Mangalore Port in enhancing Ease of Doing Business & Operational Efficiency through Technology. New Mangalore Port has gone live in the RFID application for efficient & smoother gate operations & reduced human intervention, introduced SMS & email notifications for Port Clients for sharing Invoices, receipts & reports, introduced integrated Port Operating System integrated with PCS 1x using API technology, introduced multiple platforms like GIS, E-Office and ERP for end-to-end land allotment process, Portals for Cruise Passenger Feedback, pensioners & public grievances, Face Recognition Technology for attendance of all employees and Berth Allotment feature is also implemented in PCS & iPOS for the benefit of stake holders.

Chairman, NMPT also highlighted on rail and road connectivity issues faced by the Port and its users. He pressed on the matter as better connectivity would lead to increased cargo volume to the Port and economic growth of the hinterland.
