Dakshina Kannada starts vaccinating 15-18 age group
Mangaluru, Jan 03, 2022: Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the campaign to vaccinate the 15-18 age group at Mangaluru today.
At the inaugural program Nalin Kumar at Kateel, who is also the state chief of BJP, lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the fight against Covid. He also assured that the district administration had all medical facilities to treat the Covid patients.
“When Covid entered India, we had a scary picture. There was a shortage of labs, oxygen, and medicine to treat Covid patients. But the government led by Narendra Modi took up the challenge and India started manufacturing vaccine,” he said.
“While initially healthcare and frontline workers were provided vaccine, it was later given to the senior citizens and 18 plus age group. Now the government had decided to provide vaccination to children above 15 years. This will be of great help,” he said.
He requested the people to participate in the vaccination camp.
“Due to our Prime Minister’s ability now we have 2 lakh ventilator in the country. Dakshina Kannada district has about 16 started. There is no shortage of oxygen, ventilators, and bed. With the help of CSR fund oxygen plants are set up in even distant villages too,” he said.
“We have all the facilities. But people take all the precautions like wearing the mask and maintaining social distancing. We aim to vaccinate about 1 lakh children in Dakshina Kannada. We want to vaccinate 25 thousand children today,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V said that the district has achieved 94 percent in the first dose and 80 percent in the second dose.
“About 1 lakh are yet to be vaccinated. We request the people not to be hesitant. Vaccination will help in the fight against Covid and its new variant Omicron,” he said.
He reiterated that Dakshina Kannada district had the highest number of Oxygen plants after Bengaluru in the state.
