Mock Drill held at OMPL
Mangaluru, Dec 21, 2021: ONGC Mangalore Petrochemical Ltd (OMPL) conducted a mock drill in its premises on a scenario of a benzene leak from a road tanker and subsequent fire recently.
As per the scenario, initially, there was a Benzene leak from the weld joint which was ignited later due to an electrical spark. Emergency Response was executed immediately by providing two fire Tenders and an ambulance from OMPL.
The mock drill was witnessed by Rajesh C Mishrikoti, Dy. Director Factories, Mangaluru Division – 1 and Vijaykumar Pujar, District Disaster Professional- DDMA. All major industries representatives including MRPL, MCF, HPCL, BPCL, Total Energies, BASF, Syngine, MSEZ, ISPRL, and Petronet MHB were present. Mutual Aid help was also taken from nearby large companies like MRPL and MSEZ. Mock Drill continued for thirty minutes.
During the mock drill, the leaking tanker was pulled with the help of a tractor from the filling location to a safe area. Headcount was also done and a total of 605 personnel were evacuated at different locations.
A review meeting was held later in the presence of Shri. P.P.Chainulu –Chief Executive Officer, OMPL to analyze the findings of the mock exercise and the Observers gave their opinion and suggestions for improvement.
Mock drill Response and safety measures taken by OMPL were appreciated by visiting authorities. This drill was conducted as part of the annual exercise to review the preparedness of OMPL for any emergency and mutual help during a real emergency.
