Manipal, Dec 7, 2021: The 5-Day Faculty Developmental Program (FDP) on blockchain technology and its applications was inaugurated at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) on Dec 6.

The program is organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE-ATAL), New Delhi. Around 166 participants from various parts of the country have enrolled to attend the program.

Dr. Rajkumar Buyya, Professor, School of Computing and Information Science, Melbourne, Australia, was the chief guest at the inaugural program.

Speaking about the event Cdr. (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director, Manipal Institute of Technology, defined Blockchain as modern and relevant technology.

“We are glad to inaugurate this programme on Blockchain Technology which is gaining a lot of attention and prominence. This emerging technology has several advantages and is user-friendly. We hope that the programme helps the faculty to enhance their knowledge regarding the application of Blockchain Technology,” he said.

Dr. Harish Sahu, DRDO, New Delhi, also the reviewer of the Faculty Development Program, was present at the event.

The speakers gave an overview of FDP and its theme, followed by a discussion on the utility of Blockchain technology.

The chief guest mentioned the importance of applications of blockchain, which are numerous. He also focused on some trusted sites where security is needed, and blockchain is a must. Healthcare, IOT, Bitcoins are some of the areas where blockchain is useful.

Dr. Srikanth Prabhu, Associate Professor (Senior Scale), Department of Computer Science & Engineering presented the vote of thanks. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Narendra V G, Associate Professor (Senior Scale), Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Dr. Krishnamoorthi Makkithaya, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering.
