Governor participates in Navy Day celebration at Karwar Naval Base
Karwar, Dec 06, 2021: Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot participated in the Beating Retreat ceremony at Karwar Naval base.
The event was organized as part of the Navy Day celebration on December 4 by the Naval Band at Navy House, Karwar Naval Base.
“At Home” function was conducted and culminated with the ceremonial sunset involving hauling down of the National Flag and Naval Ensign at Sunset.
The Naval Warships anchored in the Karwar Naval harbor were illuminated. Many senior civilian dignitaries of Uttara Kannada District, Naval Veterans, defence civilians, and Naval officers and sailors also attended the event.
The “At Home” function ended with an address by the Governor of Karnataka and interaction with the naval personnel and guests over tea.
December 4 is celebrated every year as ‘Navy Day’ in commemoration of the daring attack on Karachi by the Indian Naval missile vessels during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Ever since the Indian Navy has grown from strength to strength and is today a powerful and professional force covering the entire spectrum of operations. This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the great victory and is being celebrated as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ by the three Services.
Karwar Naval Base is one of the premier Naval Bases of the Indian Navy and forms part of the Western Naval Command presently headed by Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command.
Navy Day activities at the Karwar Naval Base were intended to reach out to the Naval community at large, defence civilians, and the civilian populace of Karwar. These events were aimed at showcasing the Navy and encouraging people to join the Navy and be part of its glorious journey.
