Karwar Contractors oppose work allotment to KRIDL
Karwar, Nov 26, 2021: The Karwar Taluk Registered Contractors Association has strongly objected to the proposal of handing over the road and bridge works to KRIDL.
“In the district, excluding Yellapur constituency, 70 crore has been allotted for the construction of roads and bridges in the rural areas. Of this Rs. 16 crore has been allotted for Karwar-Ankola. The Karwar MLA has written a letter asking to provide the 114 works worth Rs 16 crore to KRIDL. But we strongly oppose this,” the Contractors Association stated in a memorandum submitted to Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (through Additional DC) and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
“The MLA has recommended giving these works to KRIDL because of lack of information or some other reasons. But when the KRIDL works with only six employees including two Assistant Engineers, one Junior Engineer, two Executive Engineers, one Superintendent and a pion, how can such an organization undertake work in the district,” Contractors Association president Madhav Nayak questioned.
“The Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat had decided to blacklist Land Army, the earlier form of KRIDL. The institution is the same and the only change is in the name,” he said.
He demanded the government to hand over these works to the Panchayat Raj Engineering Section in the district.
“The Panchayat Raj Engineering Department has two Divisions in the district (11 sub-divisions). Of the total 174 sanctioned post, 130 are working. If the government had allowed the Panchayat Raj Department to undertake the works through tendering, it would have benefited the local contractors and thousands of laborers. The tender process would also have got revenue to the government also,” he added.
