Sixteen-year-old Anirudha Saralathaya, a minor, was appointed as the Peetadhipathi of Shirooru Matha. Questioning the practice of ‘Bala Sanyasa’ (appointing a minor as a Sanyasi or Peetadhipathi), P Lathavya Acharya (brother of former Shirooru Matha pontiff) had filed a writ petition at Karnataka High Court a few months ago.

Livelaw.in reported that the divisional bench of Acting Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum upheld the legality of ‘Bala Sanyasa,’ and held that there was no legal bar against a minor becoming a swami.
