From Weekend Curfew to Weekend Street Fest
Mangaluru, Sept 24, 2021: Dakshina Kannada which had experienced Weekend Curfew is likely to witness Weekend Street Fests once Covid comes under control.
Yes. Dakshina Kannada district administration has mooted the idea of organizing Weekend Street Fests in Mangaluru City once Covid is completely under control.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V gave details about this future proposal during an interaction at the ‘Meet the Press’ program organized by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union (DKWJU) at Press Club today. This will also be taken up during the stakeholders meeting on Monday.
The proposal, which is still in its initial stage, is to hold street fests every weekend at the newly developed stretch between Clock Tower and A B Shetty Circle. This would not only promote tourism but also help the local artists and entrepreneurs who have suffered during Covid and lockdown.
The district administration plans to organize a fest on different themes. While one week would be a food fest, the other week would be an art fest and so on. Small stalls would be put up on the street where people can come and enjoy the fest.
The district administration is however not in a hurry but is waiting for the things to settle.
The district is also coming up with various other projects to boost the tourism sector in the region. Revival of Pilikula Kambala, adding more verities of animals to the Pilikula Zoo are some of them. Proposal to get Blue Flag tag for the Idya and Tanirbavi beaches have been sent.
