Shyamala Kunder holds review meeting at Karwar
Karwar, July 21, 2021: National Commission for Women member Shyamala Kundar stressed the need to create awareness among rural women about the schemes and programs for their security and empowerment.
“The government has various program for women. They should be told about it. Officials should ensure programs like ‘Swadhar,’ and ‘Sakhi’ are enforced effectively in the district,” she said during a meeting at DC’s office on July 20.
District Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director gave details about the steps taken by the department.
She said 168 cases were filed in 2020-21 under the Protection of Women Act of which 4 are pending. Six cases have been filed since April, of which two are pending. Last year two cases of women and child trafficking were filed which are under investigation. No cases were filed after April.
Of 42 cases filed at Onestop center in 2020-21, 33 are solved. Nine cases were filed in April.
As many as 21 child marriage cases were stopped in 2020-21. This year there were two such incidents.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan said as schools have not yet started, it is difficult to identify child marriage cases.
