Coast Guard Karnataka sensitizes fishermen about safety and security at sea
Mangaluru, July 13, 2021: Coast Guard Karnataka conducted Community Interaction Program with fishermen at Sasihithlu fishermen co-operative society today.
The program was to sensitize the local fishermen about safety and security at sea and to provide impetus to the Centre’s flagship program ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.’
About 20 fishermen attended the programme. Officials from the fisheries department, CSP, customs also attended the program.
During the interaction, the fishermen were told about the present security scenario and the important role they play as eyes and ears at sea. They were encouraged to share any suspicious activities at sea with the Indian Coast Guard on toll-free number 1554.
The Coast Guard officials briefed about various safety precautions to be adhered to while operating at sea, including the use of safety equipment and gears hand advised to carry all life-saving equipment, boat registration papers including Biometric ID cards and Aadhaar cards during their fishing expeditions.
The fishing community was also apprised about the role of the Coast Guard and job opportunities in the service.
