5 Panchayats under complete lockdown record drastic fall in Covid cases

Mangaluru, June 20, 2021: The district administration is likely to review and decide on the continuation of a complete lockdown in the 17 Gram Panchayats.

The district administration had imposed a total lockdown on 17 Gram Panchayats with more than 50 positive cases for one week from June 14.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V said the district administration would review the situation and decide on lifting the total lockdown in the Panchayats where the number of cases has decreased and inclusion of new ones with the high rate of Covid cases.

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Kumar said that of the 17 Panchayats except three others have seen a downward trend in the number of cases.

The number of cases has increased in Naravi, Mittabagilu in Belthangady taluk, and Konaje in Mangaluru Taluk.

While the remaining 14 Panchayats have seen a fall in Covid cases, the number has drastically decreased in Aivarnadu, Aranthodu in Sullia Taluk, Neriya, Charmadi in Belthangady Taluk, and Neermarga in Mangaluru.

Other Panchayats have recorded a narrow decrease.

Meanwhile, officials said that the number of cases is likely to have increased in some other Panchayats too. The district administration is likely to compile the details of active cases and then take a decision shortly.

Senior officials including Deputy Commissioner, Zilla Panchayat CEO are likely to hold consultation with elected representatives and In-charge Minister and decide about the continuation of total lockdown in a day or two.
