Karwar, June 06, 2021: The fall in positivity rate in Uttara Kannada has brought some relief to the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan gave details about the fall in Covid cases in the district during a press conference on Saturday.

The number of cases were high in the district in May. The positivity rate was more than 30 percent then. However the number has drastically decreased over the last few days.

“On Friday 2,254 were tested and 356 found positive. The positivity rate is 15.79 percent,” he said.

Uttara Kannada district administration has found 1,827 people who have taken the first dose of the Covid vaccine but have not come for the second.

In a move to get them vaccinated, the district administration is sending SMS asking them to come for vaccination.

“Necessary steps have been taken for vaccination throughout the district. Lockdown rules will not create a problem for those going for vaccination. Everybody should join hands with the district administration in making district Covid free,” Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan told reporters.

As the monsoon is fast approaching, the Uttara Kannada district administration has made all arrangements following Covid guidelines.

As many as 160 villages have been identified as flood-prone and 204 temporary rehabilitation centers have been marked. As many as 16,826 people can take shelter in these centers.
