IMD issued orange alert for Coastal Karnataka districts
Udupi, May 16, 2021: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for Coastal and Malnad districts.
Even after Cyclone Tauktae moved towards Goa and Maharastra, Coastal districts in Karnataka are likely to experience rain for few more days.
Thunderstorm and heavy rainfall Warning:
Day 1 valid till 8.30 am of May 17th: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph likely at isolated places over all the districts of Coastal Karnataka and over all the districts of South Interior Karnataka and Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts of North Interior Karnataka.
Very Heavy rain (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm) likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts of Coastal Karnataka and Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Shivamogga districts of South Interior Karnataka.
Day 2 valid till 8.30 am of May 18th: Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts of Coastal Karnataka and all the districts of North Interior Karnataka and all the districts of South Interior Karnataka except Chikkaballapura & Kolar district.
Heavy rain (64.5mm to 115.5 mm) likely to occur at isolated places over all the districts of Coastal Karnataka and Chikkamagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Shivamogga districts of South Interior Karnataka.
