 Cyclone Tauktae: Heavy rain likely in Coastal Karnataka

Udupi, May 12, 2021: The low-pressure area being developed in the Arabian Sea is likely to result in heavy rainfall in Coastal districts of Karnataka. The low pressure is likely to convert into Cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae,’ over east central Arabian Sea by May 16.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for the next two days and an orange alert for the later three days.

Yellow alert:
The bulleting issued by the Bengaluru Center has issued a warning of heavy rainfall (64.5 to 115.5 mm) at many places from May 12 morning to May 14 morning.
Thunderstorm with lightning likely at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka from May 12 to 14.

Orange alert:
An orange alert has been issued from 8.30 am on May 14 to 8.30 am on May 17. Very heavy rain (115.6 mm to 204.4 mm) is likely in widespread areas.
Thunderstorm accompanied lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 km likely at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka from May 15 to 16.
