Weekend lockdown in Canara districts

Udupi/Dakshina Kannada/Karwar: The Weekend Lockdown was effectively implemented in the Canara coast on Saturday.

While the grocery and basic needs shops were open till 10 am as per the government guidelines, almost all, even in rural areas lowered their shutters by then.

All the major roads including the highway had a deserted look even before 10 am. Police officials kept an eye on the movement of every vehicle. Drone cameras were used by the police to monitor the situation.

However, the closure of hotels left a few laborers in trouble. Social activist Vishu Shetty Ambalpady distributed food paks to about 100 people including destitute and elderly people in places like Kinnimulki, Karavali Junction, Pandubettu, Rajangana Car Parking area, and Shiribeedu.
