MLA Umanath Kotian inaugurating the Tulu name board at Kateel

Mangaluru, April 16, 2021: Kateel temple which has been giving importance to local tradition, culture and language has gone a step ahead by installing the Tulu name board in the entrance.

The board was inaugurated by Moodabidri MLA and former president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Umanath Kotian.

Kateel stands fourth in revenue collection among the Endowment Temples in the state. People of Tulunadu believe in Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari. Local people call her Kateelamma or Kateeldappe.

Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple has always given importance to Tuluva tradition, culture, and language. The language is being taught in the High School run by the temple. Tulu script was also used in this year’s annual Jatra Mahotsava invitation.

Now the temple administration has installed the name board in one of the entrances in the Tulu language. The temple has Kannada and an English name board also.
