COVID second wave to peak by May
Bengaluru, April, 11, 2021: Health and Medial Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has said that the second wave is likely to peak by May first week in the state and slowdown by the tend of May.
Speaking to media after the meeting with Technical Advisory Acommittee (TAC), minister cautioned that there is a need to be vigilant till May end.
“If there is surge in cases, our health infrastructure will be over burdened. Experts of TAC have suggested to be vigilant at borders and thoroughly test incoming travelers from high case load states. TAC has been directed to come up with a report which will be submitted to CM. Further measures will be taken after discussion with CM,” he said.
“Private hospitals have extended their support to government. We were among the first in the country to start tele-ICU and private hospitals have also utilised it. We need to further strengthen this system. Suggestions which impact economic activities will not be considered. However experts have suggested that we must curb large gatherings and crowds that spread infection,” Sudhakar added.
Women are role model
State has received 72 lakh doses of vaccine. So far about 61 lakh doses of vaccine have been administered in the state out of which 53% are administered to women. Women have emerged role model when it comes to participation in vaccination drive, said minister.
PM lauded Karnataka’s efforts
“PM Narendra Modi spoke to CM BSY and appreciated Karnataka’s efforts to contain second wave. PM has suggested to focus on micro containment zones. We will take measures towards it,” the minister said.
“I will continue to make surprise visits to hospitals and vaccination centres. Irregularities and improper facilities won’t be tolerated. If people are aware and co-operate there is no need for lockdown or curb on economic activities,” he added.
