Mangaluru, April 04, 2021: The heated exchange between two friends regarding PUBG game led to the murder of the 12-year-old boy at Kotekar near Mangaluru said Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar.

Akif, the 12 year old son of Mohammed Haneef hails from Kotekar. Parents would allow him to play mobile games like PUBG for about an hour at night. On Saturday too at around 8.40 pm, he went out of the house with the mobile.

Though it was common practice, the parents were tensed as he did not return till late at night. The family members and friends started searching for him.

On Sunday at 6 am his body was found at the ground of Falah School at KC Nagara.

Bloodstains were found nearby and the police. Police suspected that the boy was assaulted on the ground and the body was dragged about 20 meters away and shifted to the compound wall side. The body was covered with dried coconut leaves and could not be noticed easily.
Senior Police led by Commissioner Shashi Kumar visited the spot and began the investigation.

Akif’s father told the police that the boy had been to play PUBG with his friend (name not published as it is suspected that the accused is a minor). The police who began the investigation questioned the boy.

“Akif would always win the PUBG game. The boy (accused) did not believe it and suspected that somebody else was playing in his name. On Saturday he wanted to see Akif playing. The two started playing the game and Akif lost,” Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar told reporters.

The accused taunted Akif and the two had an argument which took a serious turn. The accused boy told the police that Akif pelted a stone at him and in return, he assaulted Akif with a bigger one. The victim sustained serious injuries and died.

“We are probing the case. We will see if the boy was alone or if somebody was with him. We will also check if he had told about the incident at home. The police will also check the CC Cameras in the area,” the Commissioner added.
