 DK administration bans ‘Jathre,’ celebration

Under Section 144(3) of CRPC and Section 26 of Disaster Management Act 2005

Mangaluru, March 20, 2021: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. K V Rajendra has issued an order banning all ‘Jatre,’ (annual festivals), meetings, programs, and celebrations in public as well as religious places with immediate effect.

The order is following the order of the Chief Secretary dated March 27. In the order, the state Chief Secretary had stated that ‘Jathras/fairs associated with different religious festivals shall not be allowed in public places, public grounds, public parks, markets, and religious places.

Following this, the Deputy Commissioner has issued an order

  1. Ban on Jatre, Meeting, Functions, and celebrations in religious places as well as public places in DK district.
  2. All religious celebrations should be held symbolically. Yugadi, Shab-E-Barat, Good Friday, and other celebrations should not be held in public and religious places.
  3. People should follow COVID norms (wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and not spitting in public places. Strict action against the violators.
