Karwar, March 28, 2021: She was suffering from serious stomach pain and bleeding. Every doctor whom she consulted diagnosed her with fibroids. Though they wanted to treat her, the doctors were hesitant as her blood group was O-ve.

The other options for her were to go to private doctors in Goa or to Udupi which she could hardly afford.

But finally, the 47-year-old woman came to KIMS-Karwar superintendent and District Surgeon Dr. Shivanand Kudtarkar on March 23. The Doctor who checked her and saw her reports decided to take up the risky surgery to relieve her pain.

On March 25 he along with Dr. Spandana, Dr. Ruchi, Dr. Bharath, and Sister Nirmala Naik took up the surgery which lasted for about 45 minutes and removed the fibroids which weighed 2 kgs!

“The tumor was so big that it used to touch the woman’s hand when she came to me. I saw her suffering. Villagers who came along with her narrated her problem and so I decided to conduct the surgery. I knew that she was an O-ve patient. But I have to help the patient and I did it successfully. I could see the glow of gratitude in her eyes after the surgery. This is the biggest satisfaction for a doctor,” Dr. Shivanand Kudtarkar told The Canara Post.

“I did my PG in Ballari. I had served many patients from rural areas there. Then I came to Uttara Kannada to serve the people here. Helping such people brings great satisfaction,” he added.
