Premanand Shetty is new Mayor of Mangaluru
- Sumangala Rao elected Deputy Mayor
- BJP candidates won by a margin of 46-14 against Congress
Mangaluru, March 02, 2021: Senior BJP corporator Premanand Shetty was elected Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation today. Sumangala Rao has been elected Deputy Mayor.
The election was conducted by Mysuru Regional Commissioner G C Prakash.
In the City Corporation with 60 wards, BJP has a clear majority with 44 Corporators. While Congress has 14, SDPI has two seats.
With 44 Corporators and 2 MLAs (Vedavyas Kamath and Bharath Shetty Y), Premanand Shetty of BJP won 46 votes. Congress had fielded Anil Kumar who won 14 votes. The two corporators of SDPI remained neutral and abstained from voting.
In the election for Deputy Mayor Sumangala Rao defeated Congress Corporator Jacintha Vijaya Alfred by 46-14 votes.
