Customs officials catch two for smuggling gold concealed in trousers and pens
Mangaluru, Feb 25, 2021: Based on intelligence and reconnaissance, in two separate incidents, Mangaluru Air customs officials nabbed two persons trying to smuggle gold.
Abdul Rasheed from Paivalike, Kasargod (Kerala) was arrested near the toilets at parking area of Mangalore International Airport on Feb 23 around 8 pm. He allegely tried to smuggle gold by hiding three oval shaped packets of gold in powder form mixed with solid gum placed in transparent plastic cover wrapped with blue colored tape concealed in trousers.
About 638 grms valued at Rs.30,75,160 has been seized. He has been arrested and sent to 14 days custody.
In another case officials arrested one Abdul Nissad Pulikur Moosa hailing from Kasaragod who arrived from Dubai.
He was trying to smuggle gold concealed inside pens and battery of emergency light, totally weighing 629 grams. The value is estimated to be Rs.30,26,933.
