Nine held for attack on Pinky Nawaz

Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2021: Mangaluru City Police have arrested nine people in connection to the attack on rowdy sheeter Pinky Nawaz.

Mohammed Nawaz alias Pinky Nawaz was attacked by a gang on Feb 10 at Katipalla. They had injured Nawaz’s head, hand, and legs and tried to kill him. He is under treatment at A J Hospital.

Police had begun an investigation following a case filed at Surathkal station on the same day.
The police arrested Prashanth Bhandary alias Pacchu alias Babu, Shakib alias Shabbu, Shailesh Poojary, and Hanif alias Hampu. The four were directly involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, the police also arrested five who had cooperated with the accused.
The five arrested are – Suvin Kanchan alias Munna, Lakshmisha alias Ullal, Ahmed Sadik alias Sadhik Vasi, Nisar Hussain alias Nichu and Ranjan Shetty.

The vehicle and the weapons used for the attack have been seized.

Police said that the main accused Shakib had personal enmity with Nawaz and thus planned to attack him.

“Pinky Nawaz is accused in the Deepak Rao murder case. Prashanth Bhandari is a close friend of Deepak Rao. Shakib took the assistance of Prashanth Bhandari to score his personal enmity. Prashanth agreed as he also has personal enmity with Pinky Nawaz,” Mangaluru City Commissioner N Shashi Kumar told reporters.

The police are searching for others who had helped the accused in this case.
