Belthangady, Feb 08, 2021: Spotting a person disposing garbage on the roadside, Charmadi Panchayat PDO Prakash Shetty imposed a fine of ₹500. Requesting people not to dispose of garbage on the roadside, the PDO has warned to file criminal cases against the violators.

Hundreds of vehicles take this route connecting Kottigehara and Ujire via Charmadi Ghat. The number increases during holidays and weekends as the number of tourists to religious places and tourist destinations is more.

Many people who take this route dispose of the garbage on the roadside, as it is uninhabited. Finding the stretch between Ujire and Charmadi is filled with this garbage, the PDO Prakash Shetty and Panchayat members along with volunteers were on a clean drive when they found a person throwing garbage in two plastic bags.

The PDO immediately asked him to remove the garbage and also imposed a fine of ₹500 on the spot. The officials were shocked to hear that the person was from Ujire and had disposed of garbage in this stretch.

“A team of youths has taken an oath to ensure cleanliness in the Panchayat. They will keep an eye on those who dispose of garbage on the roadside and vacant lands. The photos of violators will be clicked and based on that we will book a criminal case,” PDO said.
