Kambala to commence from Jan end
Mangaluru, Jan 26, 2021: ‘Kambala,’ the traditional sports of Coastal Karnataka which was did not take off this season due to COVID, will commence from January end.
A meeting to discuss organizing Kambala was held at Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner’s office and was attended by MLAs Umanath Kotian and U T Khader.
“Kambala is held after harvest from November-December up to February-March. It has a history of several centuries and had received support from Kings and Emperors,” Nalin said.
“This year Kambala has not started till January due to COVID. By following all the COVID guidelines put forth by the government, ten Kambalas can be held from January 30,” he said.
DC Dr. K V Rajendra stressed the need to follow the guidelines like wearing the mask, ensuring social distancing. He also asked people not to crowd and complete Kambala by 10 pm.
The DC also said that care should be taken to ensure that children and the elderly do not attend the event.
Kambala Committee office bearers assured to follow all the guidelines. They also added that additional volunteers would be appointed to supervise this.
