Udupi, Jan 14, 2021: It was celebration time in Udupi. The Ratha Beedhi in Udupi was packed with devotees who were anxiously waiting to see Lord Krishna on the ‘Brahma Ratha.’

Makara Sankranthi has a special significance in Udupi as Sri Madhvacharya had installed (concentrated) Sri Krishna idol on this day.

Saptotsava (7-day Utsava) had begun on Saturday and on all these days Lord Krishna along with Sri Mukhyaprana was on Garuda Ratha. Sri Anantheshwara and Sri Chandramaulishwara ascended the small chariot.

On Makara Sankranthi, Lord Krishna ascends the Brahma Ratha and all the three chariots are dragged for the first time on Makara Sankranthi.

Hundreds of devotees gather to witness this and offer their prayers to Lord Krishna.
