Prime Minister to dedicate Kochi – Mangaluru natural gas pipeline to the Nation
Mangaluru, Jan 02, 2021: The Piped Natural Gas at homes will be a reality soon in Mangaluru.
Prime Minister will dedicate to the Nation the Kochi – Mangaluru natural gas pipeline of GAIL (India) Limited through video conferencing on January 5 at 11 am.
Manoj Jain, Chairman, and Managing Director, GAIL (India) Limited gave the details about the project and the program at a virtual press conference today. E S Ranganathan, Director (Marketing), GAIL, and M V Iyer, Director (Business Development), GAIL also joined the media briefing.
The 450 km-long pipelines will carry Natural Gas from Kochi in Kerala through Ernakulum, Trissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargode districts to Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. The pipeline is a landmark example of project execution with the active support of the Governments of Kerala and Karnataka.
The pipeline will bring a convenient and uninterrupted supply of environment-friendly and affordable fuel in the form of piped natural gas (PNG) to households, commercial units, and compressed natural gas (CNG) across different city gas distribution (CGD) areas in different Geographical Areas.
The pipeline will offer clean industrial fuel and feedstock for petrochemical and fertilizer sectors and provide an opportunity for multiple gas-based industries to emerge, thus bringing about socio-economic benefits to the people of these states and creating direct and indirect job opportunities.
The pipeline is already providing fuel to MCF and will also shortly supply it to other major industries like Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), ONGC Mangalore Petrochemical Ltd (OMPL) by January end.
At present, GAIL is supplying 06.-0.7 million standard cubic meters per day (mscmd) of natural gas to MCF now.
