Officials stop child marriage in Kundapur
Udupi, Dec 31, 2020: Udupi district Child Protection Unit stopped a child marriage at Kundapura Taluk.
A 17-year-old girl was to marry a 28-year-old person at Trasi Mahaganapathi Hall. Over 200 people were scheduled to attend the wedding. The District Child Protection Unit along with the Women and Child Welfare Department, Kundapur, and Gangaolli police and Gram Panchayat officials stormed to the spot and prevented the wedding.
The officials created awareness about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and an undertaking was taken from the family members and the priest.
Officials included Legal cum probation officer Prabhakar Achar, Assistant Child Development Officer Shobha Shetty, Kundapura Anganwadi supervisor Prabhavati, and others were present.
