‘Stop construction of compound wall at Karwar beach’
Karwar, Dec 30, 2020: A few residents and social activists of Karwar have approached the Deputy Commissioner requesting to stop the construction of the compound wall at Karwar beach.
“The Karwar beach is the gem and main asset and attraction of Karwar city. We have observed that a compound wall and a gate are being constructed on the eastern side of the beach. This compound wall will mar the beauty of the beach and restrict free entry and exit to the public from any place,” they stated in a memorandum submitted to the DC, Municipal Commissioner, and President.
“The beach is a common space a compound wall is not at all required on the beach, The beach is not the private property of any person or the govt. It belongs to the public. By putting the compound it will destroy the beauty of the beach,” they said.
“It appears that there are moves to levy fees even to go to the beach. We request all of you to immediately take steps to stop the construction of the compound wall. Keeping public spaces open for the use of the public is the duty of all public officers and hence we are submitting this memorandum to you. If no action is taken to stop the construction by any of you, we will be forced to start a public agitation to stop the construction,” they added.
