Ivan D’Souza and P V Mohan appointed AICC secretaries attached to General Secretary of Kerala

Mangaluru, Dec 25, 2020: Be it Belagavi or Wayanad, he had toiled round the clock for the party and came up with various strategies for the victory of Congress candidate.

While he had done all these as a party worker, this time AICC president Sonia Gandhi has given him an official responsibility.
AICC secretary P V Mohan has been appointed Secretary attached to General Secretaries in Incharge of Kerala. The post gains importance as Kerala will face elections next year. This is a crucial election for Congress.

Last week Sonia Gandhi had appointed P V Mohan and former MLC Ivan D’Souza as the secretaries in-charge of Kerala. Both these leaders are from Dakshina Kannada and have contributed to the party’s growth in their way. If one leader is a capable organizer the other one is a master strategist.

P V Mohan who had entered politics through NSUI was recognized for his strategies. He rose to various levels in Youth Congress and later in Congress party.

Though he has never fought elections, Mohan is known for organizing the party and planning strategies for the victory of the party candidates. He was appointed as the General Secretary of KPCC and AICC secretary.

While many leaders enter politics for elections, Mohan is more inclined on the party. He aspires to get higher posts in the party than election as he believes strengthening the party is the stepping stone for success in the election.

A Gandhian to the core, Mohan respects Mahathma Gandhiji like God and goes on Mauna Vrit on the death anniversary of Gandhiji. He has been doing this since last 36 years.

Mohan had grabbed the attention during the 2018 assembly election. Mohan who took the responsibility of Belagavi had chalked out various strategies to counter BJP’s plans. He had succeeded in getting good results and also victory in those constituencies which were thought to be difficult ones.

In the 2019 Parliament election, Mohan had toiled for the victory of Rahul Gandhi at Wayanad. Sultan Battery assembly segment where senior Congress leaders including Mohan had worked provided the highest lead to Rahul Gandhi. Now Mohan has been officially given the responsibility of Kerala.

Former MLC Ivan D’Souza is another Secretary who has been given the responsibility of Kerala.

Ivan can be termed as the party’s voice and face in Mangaluru.
When many Congress leaders were limited to meetings and press conferences, Ivan organized the party especially with the help of the labor class.

The election debacle never disheartened Ivan. Be it price rise or demonetization or fight against moral policing, Ivan organized the party and came to the streets against BJP when there was hardly any resistance against BJP in Mangaluru. He also took up various issues related to the region in the Council.

Ivan enjoys good support among minorities. He is capable of mingling with the common man and building the party.

Though these two leaders differ on various issues, when it comes to organising the party, both of them shed the differences to defeat the opponent.

These qualities in Ivan and Mohan have now been identified by the party.

When many leaders blame Congress for not identifying the capable leaders, the two appointments have jeered the workers.
Party workers are happy with KPCC president D K Shivakumar and AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi for appointing these two talented leaders.

“This will set a positive message. There are many leaders and workers in the party who feel that the party seniors have failed to identify the real talents in the party,” a senior party worker told The Canara Post.

“At a time when many leaders are quitting or distancing from the party, such a move by Congress will bring confidence among the party workers. This appointment shows that the party will honor the real workers with proper posting at an appropriate time,” he added.
